Presentation Assignment

2/10/2023 Given our first real assignment now, we have been put into groups of three and fours where from there we decided on a film to present, and the question we were going to answer in relation to any scene we please as an individual. Working alongside Blake, Harry and Kai, I will be focusing on the editing and how it brings meaning into  the film of our choice. Blake will be doing the same for cinematography, Mis-En-Scene for Harry leaving Kai with the sound. Coming together to decide, rather than going with something well known and accidentally choosing the same title as one of the other groups, we agreed to instead dive into the deep end and pick out a film none of us have seen leaving us blank on what to expect. For that film, the 1986 comedy, 'Down by Law' was our choice. Being about a prison escape essentially, out of the options of what none of us had seen, this one grabbed our attentions most. Having until the 31st of this month to submit something, I will update th...

Photography task

Image
5/10/23 In our 'making images unit', we have been put into four groups to take the cameras out and bring back a set of images, providing we use the techniques learnt that session, with a mini brief setting everyone with their own challenges. Being in group three with Thomas, here is what we must capture: Joanie stares straight at him. It is an uncomfortable moment. Donne is smartly dressed in a shirt, tie and polished shoes. We can see in the distance two people having a chat. Ruthie's eyes narrow evilly. With that, I can already picture a few ideas and will need to sketch them out before we go out. 11/10/23 Only having time to do two in the end, the Donnie one was the first we got done.  Needing something fancy of course, none of that was exactly accessible for us so we took things into our own hands and created a bow tie out of origami for the costume. Preferring this image to the rest, I preferred the closer-up version where we can clearly see the character adjusting his...

Networking: Freelancer Focus

2/10/2023 Being invited to a group of webinars focusing on freelancing advice for the industry, I have managed to book a placement with six of the ten opportunities. Missing one by mistake and only just missing it, the other three is only because I am scheduled in on lesson time whilst they are hosted. With the first one being about pitching, I am currently now waiting for the 'career progression opportunities' webinar to begin which will start in just an hour. Career Progression As it states, with this webinar advice is given focusing on the idea of progressing in our careers. Getting to meet many people in this session, the first we got to hear from was Nichola Garde, the talent-led initiate and disability lead in the BBC. Running a programme called 'Elevate', with this those who you would usually find to have disadvantages are given the opportunity to work through that and get to places that at one time wouldn't have been possible. Inviting Jake Brinksman onto t...

Film Form + Meaning

As a practice, by watching a film of my choice I must identify the four film forms used to build the story. Before getting onto that, the film forms are: Referential Meaning - Simple plot summary. Explicit Meaning - Direct, facts stated whether they were said or read that give context to later events. Implicit Meaning - Undirect. Metaphorical hints, subtle connections and hidden messages the filmmaker drops for the audience to find. Symptomatic Meaning - "Against it's will." The ideology and social values in film. With that said, for my movie choice: 'The Mummy' (1999). As my notes feel a mess going back and forth between the forms due to them being made as the film progressed, rather than typing them up in the same matter, they will be sectioned. Starting with the easiest to answer, Referential Meaning: Jonathon Carnahan steals an Egyptian trinket and brings it to his sister, Evelyn, who unlocks the puzzle box and finds a map. Returning to he who it belonged to,...
