2-minute short assignment

Introduction

Having until the 17th of January to hand this project in, I must plan, direct, film and edit a 2-minute short film.

As for this short film, the story must be of a person entering a space where action is taking place, then they leave. Our perception of this character must be changed.

Required: Must use eight shots at the least, but more is accepted. Must also include:

  • Establishing shot.
  • Mid shot.
  • Close-up shot.
  • POV shot.
  • Reverse shot.
Sound is not a requirement.

Planning + pre-production

With no idea as to what the plot of my story is going to be as of yet, I will need to be on the look out for inspiration. What I do know, is I need to get the production stage out of the way before going home for Christmas so I can get on with the editing at home in time to submit as filming whilst home wouldn't even be an option. Unless I can take a camera, but for now, to find the story.

Happening quicker than expected, I have my story. With more planning to be done, for now I want to get the first draft of my script done.

Deciding now to merge pre production in with my planning, here is the first draft:
Proud of this draft, as usual, my main worry is finding the right cast.

UPDATE
Showing the script to someone on my course, I have made a little change to one of the scenes... so here is draft 2:
Happy with that, the classmate has also shown great interest in my idea and will be joining me in the production process. Before anymore changes can be made, I will need the cast and asap.

UPDATE
I now have my three cast members as well as a production member. Happy enough with the script, next thing to get done is the storyboard.

UPDATE
Almost done with the pre production, it is now the first of December where we will begin shooting. Yesterday, I managed to get a photoshoot done for the frame smashing scene, found an outfit for my cupid character to wear and had also spent a good four hours painting and cutting heart shapes out of cardboard I had saved for encase as a prop to go with my cupid character. With that, the day before I had managed to find an affordable, not too cheap looking cross bow prop that will be used to kill off the Cupid.
Going for multiple versions of pinks, reds and purples, we got as many as we could done before running out of the needed colours, Still, I believe we got a decent amount for the shoot.

Not stopping there, we did follow on to do the same but with black and brown, envisioning to use them as the Cupid is shot to her death. Rather than messing around with fake blood, the black hearts will be there. Possibly leading to the use of stop motion.

As for the photoshoot, here are only a few of the pictures we had take:

With a few favourites that weren't shared, I went ahead and picked one, adjusted the contrast in photoshop and will be printing it for the short film.

Perfect.

UPDATE
With a lot that has gone on with this project, the short film is now finished and is currently on being uploaded to YouTube allowing me to send it over for submission.

I didn't get around to doing the storyboard as filming needed to be done as soon as possible. With that, the filming was very thought out thanks to the script, with only a few noticeable mistakes made that unfortunately I had no time to go back and redo.

From the filming, not many behind the scene shots were produced but here is one that is found to be particularly humorous.
That being all, here is the final product: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6wMdNUQdwQ&t=6s
